At ChangeInkk, we’re working to ensure that individuals with specific learning disabilities have equal access to opportunities from cradle to career. Our work ranges from empowering parents and educators to help them better support individuals with SLDs, to collaborating with policy makers, employers and educational institutions to create inclusive environments that allow individuals with SLDs to thrive and achieve their full potential.
In Schools, we aim to mainstream learning disability (LD) inclusion by providing technical support to state education systems, aligning with NEP 2020 mandates. This involves collaborating with State Departments of Education and Skilling to ensure reforms are inclusive for students with LD. Key focus areas include enabling policy action, disability-inclusive budgeting, and strengthening special education services, including remediation and rehabilitation. Programs will build state capacities, enhance skills of special educators, and establish community resource centers and mobile units. Schools will be transformed through sensitization, dedicated remedial spaces, stakeholder capacity-building, and the appointment of special education needs coordinators.

In November 2022, we signed an MoU with the Bihar Education Project Council (BEPC) to create an inclusive educational ecosystem where every child's potential is recognized and nurtured. In collaboration with BEPC and SCERT, our team is driving systemic changes to ensure that children, regardless of learning abilities, receive necessary support. Key achievements include incorporating an SLD checklist in Holistic Progress Cards (Grades 1-3), inclusive content in Buniyad training modules (Grades 1-8), and developing an inclusive Item Bank (Grades 1-2). Moving forward, we aim to streamline early screening and diagnosis, build educator capacity, and launch an online SLD course on the DIKSHA platform.
The ChangeInkk team in the Union Territory is advancing efforts in the early identification and screening of students at risk of Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). As part of a plan to screen 90,000 school-going students, the team has trained 40 master trainers and oriented 1,300 school teachers on SLD and its types. These master trainers were further trained in SLD identification and screening, enabling them to guide 340 Nodal teachers selected to support children with special needs (CWSN). This initiative aims to positively impact 90,000 students, ensuring those at risk receive timely support to thrive.

A key initiative focuses on building the capacity of stakeholders, including Balvatika teachers, Lady Supervisors of Anganwadi Centers, DIET faculty, headmasters, teachers, and block and district officials, with an emphasis on identifying and supporting SLD students through multisensory teaching approaches. We have assisted the state in developing a cross-disability module for teachers to create inclusive classrooms and are supporting the development of teaching materials for ECCE and FLN grades. Additionally, we are enhancing the diagnosis and certification process to provide targeted support for SLD students.
In Nagaland, we initiated early screenings to identify students at risk for Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). We collaborate with district hospitals, inclusive educators, and parents for formal diagnosis and remediation. Additionally, we developed Universal Design for Learning (UDL)-based teaching materials for grades 1-3, incorporating working memory activities tailored for SLD students. We provided input on SLD accommodations at the K-12 level under SCERT and partnered with the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) to create an SLD information chatbot on their website. Our capacity-building training sessions equip educators with inclusive strategies, raising awareness and improving educational outcomes for students with learning disabilities.
In Uttar Pradesh, significant strides are being made under Samagra Shiksha to support children with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). In the first phase, all 2,250 special educators received cross-disability training on SLD. Additionally, around 64,000 model teachers were trained on key topics, including identification, symptoms, types, classroom management, and parent counseling for children with SLD.
